Centerville Branch Library

This unique facility combines the varied functions of a county public library branch with a community center to serve the diverse Centerville community. Gwinnett County wanted a meeting place that fit into the neighborhood. The design evolved out of a desire to keep as much of the site's natural beauty as possible, thus the preservation of an existing pond and surrounding meadow lands. The one story brick building echoes the architectural vocabulary of rural buildings and stables, a nod to the area's agricultural past which included the horse farm formerly on the site. Feature windows in a contained grid pattern frame the pastoral views from within and are located at key public areas of the building.

Project manager Carmen Ponder coordinated with the various Gwinnett County departments involved (Support Services Facilities Management Division , Community Services, and the Gwinnett County Public Library) in the project to provide full architectural services. The complex collaboration required numerous design meetings with County representatives, and resulted in a functional & efficient facility that makes the most of a stringent budget to meet the needs of the community and provide an attractive meeting place.
